Grand Marica
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
Presentation
In the year 1991 we got our first Cavalier. On that time our son was only 7 years old and he badly wanted a small dog of his own. We got in contact with a well known breeder, Kari Schou (Kennel Northern Crown) and we were lucky that she had a lovly little Black/Tan bitch for sale. Our first Cavalier, named Nothern Crown Black Rebecca was the foundation Queen in our little Cavalier Breed.
The strong points in Rebecca is her extreme wonderful movements, besides she is a rather small well build female. Her week points is that she needs to be filled out in her nose and she has a bit low set ears. As we on that time were totally unknown with breeding Cavaliers we asked one of the best breeders in Denmark for help. Ebba Ålegaard told us to go to Holland for a wonderful strong Ruby male : Gleaming Gold of Worth owned by Wendy & Ben Hilberts Goodman (Kennel Royal Companion). Again we were lucky and got 3 puppies and kept both a Black/Tan and a Ruby Bitch for breeding.
Of cause we lost our hearts to the Cavaliers - and became interested in both shows and to breed this wonderful small dogs. We are happy to say that we have several wonderful friends in Germany and Sweende breeding that type of Cavaliers we love.
In1996 we had the opportunity to buy our first stud from Sylka Eichhof: Crown Hunter Louisiana Red. Louis is very close to our ideal of a perfect Cavalier. Rather small, well build with a very maskulin head, beautyful eyes with perfect pigmentation. He loves to go for a good hunt on small birds and rabbits. He is very muscular and his weigh is not over 8 kilo.
We are so happy to have leased a wonderful Black/Tan male from Peter & Per Gustavsson in Sweden : Vouge's Trespasser. He stayed here for almost 2 years and I most say that we love him. He is always demanding love - he is a very happy dog with a very specieal sensitive personality. I know we have to say good bye to him because he must return for Sweden, but we surely stilll miss him. Thanks Peter & Per for thrusting us for such a long time.
Peter & Per Gustavsson has make it possible for us to buy a lovely little bitch: Vouge's American Pie - and she has given wonderful babies for the future.
Every breed have health problems and unfortunately also the Cavalier. The most importantproblem is Endocardiose but also problems as Patella Luxation (PL), deafness and eye diseases like Cataract and PRA are following this breed. Therefore it is very important that the breeders are making tests of the dogs.
DKK - The Danish Kennel Club request that the dog are shown at a dog show and to keep at least a second price to be allowed for breeding. Futhermore our club, Specialklubben for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels requires that both parents must be heart scanned before breeding. Only with a healthy heart the dog can be used for breeding. Furtheermore it is required that the dog must be at least 18 month of age to accept the scanning.
In my opinion it is not "only" nessesary to be aware of the heart - but also it is very important that the dog can use his legs - so for me it is very important to make the test for PL and for the eye diseases. A healty dog is not the only thing to take care of - It is for me also very important that the Cavalier is friendly and have a strong personality. To give my puppies a good start in life it is a must for me, that my puppies are not leaving the house before they are at least 10 weeks old.
Grand Marica Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are of cause registered in DKK - the Danish Kennel Klub.
